Texas House Passes Groundbreaking Bill Targeting School Gender Practices

Texas lawmakers took decisive action over the weekend, passing a landmark parental rights bill that places strict limits on “gender ideology” in public schools and expands parental control over children’s education.

The legislation now awaits final Senate approval before heading to Gov. Greg Abbott’s (R) desk for signature.

Senate Bill 12, authored by Sen. Brandon Creighton (R-Conroe), passed the Senate in March on a 20-11 party-line vote.

Early Sunday, the Texas House followed suit, approving the bill 88-47, with three lawmakers voting present but not voting. Rep. Jeff Leach (R-Plano) led the bill through the House.

The bill includes a prominent measure that prevents schools from aiding children in presenting as a different gender, a proposal backed by Rep. Steve Toth (R-Spring).
