‘Texas isn’t Minnesota’: Muslims want to ban alcohol, gambling and pork as Sharia patrols arrive in Houston

Reports of “Sharia patrols” protesting the sale of pork and alcohol in a red state drew mixed reactions as some saw cause for concern and others reminded, “Texas isn’t Minnesota.”

From no-go zones in Europe to Democratic Party candidate boycotts in America, Islamists in Muslim communities have more than merely thrown their weight around when exporting their culture. Now, amid heightened concerns about alleged Sharia developments across the Lone Star State, a radical imam is raising eyebrows in Texas for commencing a pressure campaign against Muslim-owned stores selling forbidden goods.

“Toward the end of this month, we’re kicking off a national protesting and demonstrations campaign against all Muslim businesses that have haram in their store,” Houston area Imam F. Qasim ibn Ali Khan could be heard saying in a video shared by RAIR Foundation editor-in-chief Amy Mekelburg as she begged the question, “Where are Texas leaders? What starts in Houston won’t stay in Houston.”

Her report highlighted that the imam represents the Nation of Islam mosque Masjid At-Tawhid and that his dyed beard was indicative of his adherence to Sharia as the practice is “rooted in hadith instructing Muslims to distinguish themselves from non-believers,” often “adopted by hardline preachers and militant figures.”
