Texas Troopers Discover 10-Year-Old Boy Abandoned at the Border on Thanksgiving

Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) officers encountered a distressing scene on Thanksgiving Day when they discovered a 10-year-old boy from El Salvador crying alone near the U.S.-Mexico border. The boy, who had been abandoned by human smugglers, was left vulnerable and frightened in unfamiliar territory.

The incident occurred in Hidalgo County, Texas, where DPS Special Operations Group troopers found the child. Upon discovering him, the officers immediately offered care and comfort. The boy explained that he had been traveling with a larger group of migrants but was left behind.

Texas DPS Lieutenant Chris Olivarez shared footage of the incident on X.

“The child was crying and told troopers a smuggling guide left him behind and that he was lost,” he wrote on X. “The child only had a phone and stated his parents were in the US. The child was turned over to the US Border Patrol.”
