The Belarusian parliament has ratified a treaty allowing the deployment of Russian military bases in the country.

Deputies of the House of Representatives of the Belarusian parliament have ratified the agreement between Moscow and Minsk on security guarantees, which, among other things, provides for the deployment of Russian military facilities on the territory of Belarus. Now the bill must be approved by the upper house of parliament, after which the document will be signed by Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko and will come into force.

According to the law approved by the National Assembly of Belarus, for reasons of national security, military and other facilities of the Russian Federation may be created on the territory of the republic, as well as formations of the Russian Armed Forces may be stationed.

The corresponding agreement was signed in Minsk in early December last year. The agreement is aimed at strengthening the security of the parties within the common space of the Union State, as well as at securing mutual guarantees for taking measures in the event of an attack on the security of the association or one of the signatory countries…
