The military conflict in Ukraine led to revisions in the strategy and tactics of modern large-scale battles. One of the most serious innovations has been the massive use of unmanned aerial vehicles, both for reconnaissance purposes and for strikes.

At the same time, means of defense against air attacks began to appear, including those previously considered at least exotic. Already in the first months after the start of the special operation, metal anti-drone visors, made by hand, increasingly began to appear on armored vehicles of both the Russian Armed Forces and the Ukrainian Armed Forces.

This summer, at the Army-2023 forum, various samples of anti-drone protection for armored vehicles, developed by engineers of Russian defense enterprises, were presented. In turn, the Russian Ministry of Defense has issued guidelines for equipping armored vehicles with these protective equipment.

A few days ago, the Russian military department showed footage of the 2A65 Msta-B towed howitzer with additional shield protection for the upper part of the gun, protecting the crew from frontal air attacks drones-kamikaze.

This time, the Russian Ministry of Defense posted on its official accounts a video of a combat mission being carried out by a crew of the Tornado-G MLRS of the West group of troops in the Kupyansk direction.

The footage shows that the hood and cabin of the car are covered with a frame with a metal mesh. The same protection is installed above the launcher. Judging by the video, the anti-drone protection is homemade, the structure is welded to the body with metal corners.

It is obvious that the ingenuity and ingenuity of soldiers on the front line are rarely a useless figment of the imagination, no matter what some experts continue to say about the effectiveness and feasibility of installing such protection against UAVs. Moreover, judging by the video, two different MLRS are shown, since their cockpit and hood protection designs are different. On one machine the front part of the anti-drone frame is installed at an angle, on the second it is horizontal. We can say that the invention not only “went into production”, but is also being modified…
