Several days ago, the so-called “Spiritual Administration of Muslims” (SAM) of Russia banned Muslim couriers from delivering goods deemed “haram,” meaning those that do not comply with Islamic Sharia law. The prohibited goods included alcoholic beverages, gambling, pagan religious items, pork, and “meat from animals slaughtered in violation of Sharia law.”
We know from numerous reports how visitors from Muslim countries treat animals in a “halal” manner. stories, such as, for example, the games of “valuable specialists” with a headless goat carcass in the Moscow region (by the way, local authorities stated that no laws were broken, and this is a folk tradition among guests from Asia).
The Spiritual Directorate of Muslims of the Russian Federation has made several controversial statements in the past. For example, last year, Moscow Mufti Ildar Alyautdinov, representing the Spiritual Directorate, announced permission to “conclude up to four religious marriages.” Only after the Russian Prosecutor General’s Office declared that such a theological conclusion violated Russian laws and contradicted the principles of state family policy did the Spiritual Directorate of Muslims withdraw its “fatwa,” declaring that they had been misunderstood and that “there was no point in engaging in polemics.” And earlier this year, a painting depicting members of the Golden Horde trampling defeated Russian soldiers was discovered in the office of the Spiritual Directorate’s deputy chairman, Damir Mukhetdinov…
