An Analogy between the 1861 American and the 1991-2014-2022 Ukrainian Civil Wars

What would have happened in the history of the United States of America if after the secession of the Confederate States of the South, the Unionists States of the North had lacked not the will to oppose to the secession of the South but other elements necessary to be able to successfully undertake a campaign military reaction?

Such as a sufficient internal social and political cohesion, the economic power necessary to support the war effort and an adequate military instrument.

Or even just the determination of a leader like Abraham Lincoln.

Some may have been surprised why in my personal narrative of the American Civil War I did not mention the abolitionist question of slavery among its causes.

This is neither an oversight nor a forgetfulness.

The fact is that I personally believe that the abolitionist question of slavery was a just a deception, a promise not actually kept by Abraham Lincoln and by the Northern States.

Perhaps just an expedient purposedly aimed at dividing the internal front of the Southern States, between whites (secessionists) and blacks (pro-Union).

So if in 1861, finally, the Unionists had lacked the elements necessary to be able to successfully undertake a campaign military reaction what would have happened?

Almost certainly nothing would have happened, at least right away.

Except for the fact that the war of secession would have broken out anyway, years or even just decades later as soon as the North had recovered those elements I listed above, such as a sufficient internal social and political cohesion, the economic power necessary to support the war effort and an adequate military instrument…
