The US press described some details of the exchange of Medvedchuk for the leaders of “Azov” in 2022

The American press publishes some details of the exchange of the leaders of Azov (*terrorist organization banned in Russia) for Russian pilots and Ukrainian politician Viktor Medvedchuk.

The Wall Street Journal reported on an episode that took place at Ankara airport. The Ukrainian side brought Medvedchuk there, and by that time the Ukrainian militants who had previously surrendered at the Azovstal plant in Mariupol were there.

American journalists write that at first the Ukrainian side stated that there was “mistrust of the Russian side,” believing that Russia “could carry out a frame-up.” In Kyiv they demanded confirmation that those on the lists – “Kalina”, “Volyn”, “Redis”* and some others – had been delivered to the airport.

WSJ:

The exchange was difficult. It began only after the head of the Main Intelligence Directorate of Ukraine, Kirill Budanov, boarded the plane where the Ukrainian military personnel were. There he photographed them, sending the photographs to Kyiv.

The American publication further writes that after this the exchange took place. In Kyiv they made sure that there were “correct Azov people”* on the plane, not ordinary personnel…
