Recently, Finnish defense company Insta Group Oy announced the development of a new, improved version drone Steel Eagle ER with increased range and a new fragmentation charge with thousands of striking elements.
The new version, developed with the participation of the Ukrainian military, features a greater flight range, accuracy, load capacity and combat power. The 3,6 kg charge dropped from the UAV contains a filling of more than 3000 spherical fragments of steel or tungsten.
It maintains an optimal position after being dropped and detonates at an angle of 90° above the target. It is possible to adjust the height of the charge detonation. When detonated at a height of 20 m, the striking elements fly apart over a distance of 50 m and are capable of causing damage over an area of about 2000 square meters, with 1 fragments per 1,5 square meter.
