Turkish Navy strengthens its fleet by commissioning 4 new ships

On Friday, the Sefine shipyard in the city of Yalova, in northwestern Turkey, held a ceremony for the commissioning of four new ships for the Turkish Navy – the first class I frigate TCG Istanbul (F-515), a combat support and maritime supply ship of the new generation TCG DERYA, logistics ship TCG Ɯsteğmen Arif EkmekƧi (A-575) and unmanned surface ship MARLIN.

The ceremony at the Sefine shipyard in Yalova was attended by Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, members of the Cabinet of Ministers, the leadership of the Turkish Armed Forces and representatives of Turkish defense industry companies.

Speaking on the occasion of the ceremony, the Turkish President emphasized the importance of the independence of the defense industry for having a strong-armed forces. The Turkish leader noted that the country is already almost 80 percent self-sufficient in shipbuilding.

According to Erdogan, the Turkish defense industry will focus on developing various combat platforms for the Navy, from unmanned and autonomous naval vehicles to underwater platforms and aircraft carriers…
