Two Indian-origin men have pleaded guilty in a federal visa fraud case in California.
The Indian migrants entered into a guilty plea after prosecutors uncovered irrefutable evidence exposing the scam.
Prosecutors said they used fabricated job claims linked to the University of California to secure H-1B visas for foreign workers.
The fraudsters were identified as Sampath Rajidi, 51, and Sreedhar Mada, 51.
Both men were living in Dublin but were described as “Indian-origin.”
The U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Eastern District of California announced that Rajidi and Mada admitted guilt to conspiracy to commit visa fraud.
Fake Job Claims Used to Secure Visas
Prosecutors said the scheme ran from June 2020 through January 2023.
It involved submitting H-1B visa petitions that falsely claimed applicants would be employed in positions at the University of California.
According to federal officials, those jobs did not exist.
Rajidi operated S-Team Software Inc. and Uptrend Technologies LLC.
Mada served as a chief information officer at the University of California Agriculture and Natural Resources.
The two men worked together to lend credibility to the applications.
Authorities said Mada’s position helped make the petitions appear legitimate to federal immigration officials.
