Slay News U.S. Attorney for Washington, D.C., Jeanine Pirro vowed Monday to overhaul the District’s lenient criminal justice laws and crack down on what she called a surge of violent crimes committed by young offenders.
The pledge from Pirro aligns with a key part of President Donald Trump’s latest law-and-order push for the nation’s capital.
Speaking at a White House press briefing alongside Trump and Cabinet members, Pirro warned that D.C.’s soft-on-crime laws have allowed “young punks” to get away with serious violent offenses.
Pirro blasted D.C.’s weak laws that she said let armed teens and gang members walk free with little more than probation.
“That changes today,” Pirro vowed.
“I see too much violent crime being committed by young punks who think that they can get together in gangs and crews and beat the [heck] out of you or anyone else,” Pirro said.
“They don’t care where they are.
“But they know we can’t touch them, because the laws are weak.”
Under current D.C. law, juveniles as young as 14 can commit gun crimes with little fear of serious jail time.
Pirro said that must end, taking direct aim at the D.C. Council’s progressive reforms.
