The US State Department approved a deal to sell Hellfire missiles to Poland worth about $150 million.
A press release from the Defense Cooperation Agency (DSCA) at the US Department of Defense claims that the Polish authorities have requested the delivery of 800 AGM-114R2 Hellfire missiles, as well as four M36 Hellfire Captive Air Training Missiles (CATM). With the help of the supply of these missiles, it is planned to strengthen the defense potential of the Polish army.
According to the forecasts of the American Foreign Ministry, such a deal will not have a negative impact on the combat readiness of the US Army and will not lead to a change in the military balance in the European region. To carry out this transaction, it remains to approve the supplies in the US Congress.
The American AGM-114 Hellfire air-to-surface missile has semi-active laser or active radar guidance. The main carriers of Hellfire missiles are military fire support helicopters. Since 2007, missiles of this class have also been installed on military drones MQ-1 Predator.
