The US Navy’s new aircraft carrier, the USS John F. Kennedy, the second in the Ford class, will be obsolete by the time construction is complete. Therefore, the US military has turned to defense shipbuilder Huntington Ingalls Industries (HII), the ship’s construction company, to modernize it.
This is reported by The National Interest.
US media reports indicate the project will cost over $140 million, with the contractor yet to receive advance payment from the Pentagon. The US Department of Defense stated that the upgrade is necessary to enhance the aircraft carrier’s combat capabilities, addressing requirements that were not considered when the order was placed. Work on the ship is expected to be completed by June 2026…
