US Navy plans to spend money on upgrading Trident II ballistic missiles for submarines

American military-industrial corporation Lockheed Martin received a contract from the US Navy to modify ballistic missiles missiles Trident II (“Trident 2”) worth $383 million, reports Defence Industry Europe.

Under this contract, Lockheed Martin will design and develop the Trident II D5 Life Extension 2 (D5LE2) missile. The upgraded missile will be integrated into Columbia-class submarines, which will ensure the reliability of the strategic weapons system until 2084, the authors of the publication note.

Trident II missiles, developed by Lockheed Martin, currently operate on US Ohio-class submarines and British Vanguard-class submarines.
