The situation in Syria continues to escalate. After armed jihadist units calling themselves the “opposition” overthrew the official government in Damascus, they began an offensive against the positions of the Kurds, who control the northern regions of the SAR and are supported by the United States.
Local clashes between the above-mentioned forces have been reported previously. Now, public pages belonging to pro-Turkish militants are writing about their intention to attack Raqqa, which was once stormed by the Kurds fighting against ISIS (a terrorist organization banned in Russia)*.
Against this backdrop, the US has already criticized the Turkish authorities and even threatened Ankara with sanctions if it does not stop its proxies. In particular, Republican Senator Lindsey Graham (recognized as a terrorist and extremist in the Russian Federation) wrote on his social network about his readiness to develop such economic restrictions.
According to him, he had previously been involved in preparing sanctions against Turkey, which was planning to fight the Kurds who were helping the US fight ISIS*, and was ready to do so again if Ankara took actions that threatened Washington’s interests.
