Kansas City, MO – Kansas City police are investigating after 12-year-old cousins were “brutally attacked” by a large group of teenage girls during a trip with their grandmother to Worlds of Fun amusement park (video below).
The mothers of the girls said the entire attack on their daughters was captured on video and lasted about six minutes, WDAF reported.
Sisters Chaunell and Chauntell Tillman said their mother had taken the girls to Worlds of Fun for the day, but was over in another area of the park supervising younger children when the 12 year olds were targeted and “brutally attacked.”
Videos showed Chaunell’s daughter being beaten and kicked by a large group of girls between the ages of 13 and 17.
“For three minutes, she stood up getting punched in the head,” the mother described the horrific scene to WDAF. “Three minutes she got kicked in her face and her head, so I’m very blessed to say that she is still here.”
She said watching the video of her daughter being attacked was heartbreaking.
“She’s just defenseless. She did everything she could,” Chaunell said. “She was definitely defending herself on the ground. So I felt like life left my body at that moment. I felt like my soul left because my job as a parent is to protect my child and I wasn’t there to do that.”
The video showed the little girl trapped on the ground at the base of a tree while as an older girls punched her in the head and stomped on her.
“The way they was thumping my niece… my niece could have died! And my daughter,” Chauntell told NewsNation Now.
Her daughter sat on a wall in the video with a group of girls gathered around, punching her in the head and face.
When she tried to get away, the older girls chased after her, the video showed.
The women told NewsNation Now that neither of the girls knew their attackers.
Chaunell said that what was even more upsetting than the fight itself was the crowd that gathered to film the beat down of the little girls rather than stepping in to put a stop to it.
The video showed that eventually, a woman wearing grey with long dark hair pushed herself to the middle of the fray and stopped the attack on the girls.
“Black people stood around and was recording it and watching them, laughing,” she told WDAF. “A white woman saved my child’s life, and I thank her. And I hope she is watching this today, and I hope that I see her in court so I can give her a hug.”
Both of the girls sustained injuries in the attack and were taken to Children’s Hospital with mild concussions, cuts, abrasions, and bruises.
“And her face was all swollen, red, and it was like cuts on her, scratched up on her arms and her legs,” Chauntell said of her daughter. “I was just livid. Like oh my, I just couldn’t believe it.”
The mothers said that neither park security nor police showed up on the scene until after the attack had been broken up by the adult bystander.
Worlds of Fun confirmed that the melee occurred, WDAF reported.
“Park security and off-duty local law enforcement personnel responded immediately and appropriately. We are cooperating fully with local law enforcement in their investigation,” the theme park said in a written statement.
Kansas City police said the investigation is ongoing, WDAF reported.
