Hayli Gubbi Erupts After 10,000 Years — Seen From Space
Yes, the Earth continues its tradition of waking up stuff we thought was dead. Yesterday, Ethiopia’s Hayli Gubbi volcano — dormant for thousands of years — suddenly blasted ash high enough to be photographed by the Aqua/MODIS satellite.
Scientists have no record of it erupting in the last several millennia, though to be fair, the Danakil Desert is so brutal and remote that records are basically: “Some rocks erupted at some point … maybe?”
