President-elect Donald Trump shook hands with French President Emmanuel Macron and a number of other world leaders when he traveled to Paris for the re-opening of the Notre Dame Cathedral on Saturday.
Trump had previously announced that he would be traveling to Paris for the re-opening, which comes a little over five years after the iconic cathedral was gutted by a devastating fire. Teams of engineers, architects and craftsmen worked along the clock to get the church ready for the ambitious five-year deadline set by the French president, who delivered a national address ahead of the re-opening ceremony.
The president-elect first met with Macron at the Élysée Presidential Palace in Paris. Trump described the meeting as a “great honor” in a Truth Social post alongside a video of the two shaking hands. Macron and Trump were soon joined by Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, who shook hands with Trump and said it is “nice to see you again.”
