York, Pennsylvania, became the latest jurisdiction to harden policies protecting criminal illegal aliens before Donald Trump returns to the White House.
The City Council of York convened Tuesday for their final meeting of 2024 and voted to pass Bill 47, which codifies practices designed to shield illegals and ‘refugees’ from immigration enforcement.
The council, which is comprised exclusively of females, voted 3-2 in favor of enacting Article 156, Welcoming and Access to Immigrants and Refugees.
With few exceptions, city employees and law enforcement are now prohibited from assisting or supporting federal immigration authorities.
The bill states, “under no circumstances shall a City of York Police Department member, or other official or employee, whether assigned to a task force or not, have the authority to enforce administrative violations of immigration law or otherwise assist in the enforcement of civil immigration law.”
City employees cannot ask about immigration status when a victim reports a crime, during traffic stops, or when parents enroll their children in local schools.
Article 156 also establishes forms of identification that are to be considered acceptable in York, including photo ID issued by “a non-profit organization approved by the City.”
An earlier version of the bill included a line stating, “the City of York boasts a diverse community with almost 40 percent of the City’s population identified with a Hispanic heritage, with 11 percent who speak English less than very well,” but most of that sentence was struck during the final vote…
