Google’s video sharing platform giant YouTube has announced they have a “responsibility” to throttle content and manipulate algorithms that they feel could affect the integrity and influence of the 2024 elections around the world.
This was noted in a blog post by YouTube on March 27th, as explained by the platform’s newest chief product officer, Johanna Voolich.
YouTube wrote in a blog post: “As our CEO Neal Mohan shared in his annual letter, we’ve got 4 big areas of focus this year: we’re using AI to empower creativity, helping creators succeed and be recognized as next-generation studios, powering TV for an entirely new generation, and building the tools to keep our community safe. But what does that all mean for our viewers and creators and the products we use each day on YouTube? Who decides what gets built – and how?”
“Responsibility: and so, we want to do this in a way that YouTube is a responsible actor in society,” Voolich said in a video Q&A.
This year is also interesting because, did you know that 40% of the globe is going through elections in 2024; that really hones in on our responsibility work, and our viewers can get authoritative and useful information in such important times.
