The Native American Rain Dance is a ceremonial dance performed in an effort to summon spirits to cleanse the earth with rain. They believed that if the spirits thought your dance was good enough, crops would grow. Rain was also believed to be a symbol of forgiveness.

To this day, in at least Central California, Kuksu dance rituals are believed to assure the renewal of the world’s foods. Kuksu was personified as a spirit being by the Pomo people.
