Two U.S. government officials killed in a vehicle crash after returning from a raid on a drug lab in northern Mexico were Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) employees, the Associated Press reports.

“Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum told reporters Tuesday that federal prosecutors are investigating potential violations of national security,” CBS News stated.

Two Mexican officers also died in the crash.
