Georgia Gov. Brian Kemp contacted by federal officials investigating Donald Trump over 2020 election

Special counsel Jack Smith’s team has contacted Georgia Gov. Brian Kemp in its investigation into former President Donald Trump’s efforts to overturn the results of the 2020 election.

“Our office has been contacted by Jack Smith’s office,” Andrew Isenhour, a spokesperson for the Republican governor, said in a statement to USA TODAY on Sunday.

USA TODAY has reached out to Kemp’s office for more information.

The former president confirmed last week that he is a target of a federal investigation into the Jan. 6, 2021, Capitol riot, and he could be indicted soon on charges related to his push to overturn his loss to President Joe Biden in the 2020 race for the White House.
