Michigan House Passes Bill That Criminalizes Residents For Using The Wrong Pronouns, Fines Up To $10K

The Michigan state House of Representatives has just passed a bill that would charge residents with a felony if a victim reports that they were misgendered or refuses to not use their preferred pronouns.

House Bill 4474 was passed in the House recently in June, in a vote of 59-50, that criminalizes causing someone to feel threatened by their words. Felons, if the bill passes the Senate and is signed by Governor Gretchen Whitmer, are “guilty of a felony punishable by imprisonment for not more than 5 years, or by a fine of not more than $10,000.”

‘Intimidate’ means a willful course of conduct involving repeated or continuing harassment of another individual that would cause a reasonable individual to feel terrorized, frightened, or threatened, and that actually causes the victim to feel terrorized, frightened, or threatened…
