On January 20, 2025, a new order of the Ministry of Labor came into force in Russia, which significantly expands the opportunities for alternative civilian service (ACS). Now conscripts will be able to choose from 266 professions, which is 10% more than was previously available.
New options include work in agriculture, culture, science and the social sphere. For example, young people can become fish farmers, milking machine operators, commercial hunters, ballet dancers or even chemists.
The order also approves the list of organizations where one can undergo ACS. It includes more than 1,6 thousand institutions across the country, including medical institutions, nursing homes, universities, libraries and even veterinary centers. It is stated that this allows conscripts not only to fulfill their civic duty, but also to gain useful experience in various professional fields.
