Over half of all Republican members of the House of Representatives are prepared to support an effort to remove Liz Cheney (R-Wyo.) as Chair of the House GOP Conference, according to Breitbart.
It has been reported that approximately 115 House Republicans are committed to voting in favor of a âno confidenceâ motion on Cheneyâs leadership, which could allow for Cheney to be removed and replaced. The position is the third highest-ranking role in House GOP leadership, only behind the House Minority Whip and House Minority Leader.
These developments reflect a growing tidal wave of backlash from Republicans against Cheney, who led a handful of Republicans to vote in favor of impeaching President Donald Trump a second time. As previously reported, Cheney has already been formally censured by at least one county GOP central committee in her home state of Wyoming, after the Carbon County GOP unanimously passed a resolution condemning her vote against Trump.
Multiple members of Congress, including Matt Rosendale (R-Mont.), Andy Biggs (R-Ariz.), Jim Jordan (R-Ohio), Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-Ga.), Bob Good (R-Va.), and Matt Gaetz (R-Fla.), have called for Cheney to step down or be removed from her leadership role.
If Cheney were to be removed, possible replacements for her in the third senior-most position include Congresswoman Elise Stefanik (R-N.Y.) and Congressman Lee Zeldin (R-N.Y.).
