The official Saudi news agency reports that seven of the drones targeted areas in southern Saudi Arabia

Saudi military forces on Saturday said that it intercepted and destroyed 10 drones fired at the kingdom by Houthi rebels from Yemen, local media reported.

The official Saudi news agency reported that seven of the drones targeted areas in southern Saudi Arabia.

Three targeted the region of Khamis Mushait, also in the south, which houses military installations, according to the report.

“The interception operations were successful,” the military said in a statement, adding that the drones were filled with explosives and seven of them were destroyed in Yemeni airspace.

Earlier on Saturday, Iranian-backed Houthi rebels tweeted that a drone was launched in the morning toward King Khaled air base in Khamis Mushait.

Yemeni insurgents regularly carry out attacks on Saudi territory.

Riyadh had notably announced at the beginning of March that a drone had struck a major oil port and that a ballistic missile had targeted installations of the oil giant Aramco in the East.
