He also understands that the good of the country is more important than his own wishes and desires.
And that’s exactly why, I believe, that he didn’t start the mass arrests and mass firings in his first term.
He (wrongly) believed he could work with these people.
He (wrongly) believed they truly loved America like he did, even if they differed on policies…
