Firstly we should open by explaining exactly what the U.N migration pact is all about. Essentially it is a pact between nations to work together in order to improve the nature of movement, means of travel, conditions of travel, and the health and safety of migrants during travel.

Secretary-General of the U.N. António Guterres said one of the goals of the compact was “to strengthen international cooperation against smugglers and human traffickers, and to protect their victims.”

The pact has been opposed by seven EU countries which include Hungary, Austria, Italy, Poland, and Slovakia. Hungary has taken a keen anti-immigration stance in recent months in EU Parliament citing their discontent and obstinate reluctance to open border migration.

PEGIDA, a right wing political movement based in Germany which stands for “Patriotic Europeans against the Islamisation of the Occident”.

Denmark’s immigration Minister Inger Stojberg posted on Facebook “They are undesirable in Denmark, and they must notice!”.

Around 5,000 anti-immigration protesters rallied outside the European Union headquarters in Brussels to mark their dissatisfaction with the newly signed U.N migration pact. Around 1,000 counter protesters rallied in response to signify their unity with migrants, one of them citing “We want to raise the alarm to show that the organizers of the other demo are fascists groups,” Naomi Stocker told the BBC. “They advertise hate and discrimination and are violent. We want to warn people and send a different message.”
