Louisiana mom killed while saving her daughter from hitmen

By Peter Heck ·

Brittany Cormier, a 34-year-old Louisiana mom, made the ultimate sacrifice by pretending to be her own daughter in order to spare the girl from hitmen who came to kill her.

Cormier’s own brother, 35-year-old Beaux Cormier, had allegedly hired the hitmen to kill his niece after being charged with raping the girl.

When the two killers, Andrew Eskine, 25, and Dalvin Wilson, 22, stormed the house on January 13th, Brittany Cormier had her daughter and stepdaughter hide in a closet. She told the killers that she was the rape victim they were looking for, and was shot.

Cormier’s neighbor, Hope Nettleton, was also shot and killed at the scene as she attempted to fight off the hitmen. The 37-year-old Nettleton was just over visiting Cormier at the time of the attack.

“Brittany Cormier was murdered as a result of telling the shooter she was in fact the rape victim, likely saving the life of the actual rape victim,” local Sheriff Timothy Soignet said in a press release.

The sheriff said that Beaux Cormier was a suspect almost immediately because of the “pretty solid rape case” authorities had against him, “which provided the motive.”

Eskine and Wilson both confessed to being hired by Beaux Cormier, and all three are being held on two counts of 1st-degree murder, with Cormier also facing a 3rd-degree rape charge as well.

District Attorney Joe Waitz, Jr. said of the accused that “the death penalty is definitely on the table.”
