American Greatness Orange County, California has released over 2,000 illegal aliens onto the streets as a result of California’s “sanctuary state” law, as the Daily Caller reports.
The southern California county, home to Disneyland, has released approximately 2,100 illegals due to S.B. 54, which was passed in January 2018. County officials then released 1,106 illegals over the course of 2018, and another 1,015 in 2019, all without notifying federal immigration officials.
Of those 2,100, about 411 have since been re-arrested for crimes “such as rape, child sex offenses, and domestic assault.”
Orange County Sheriff-Coroner Don Barnes released a statement declaring that “S.B. 54 has made our community less safe. The law has resulted in new crimes because my deputies were unable to communicate with their federal partners” about the release of such dangerous criminals. Acting ICE Director Matthew Albence responded with his own statement praising Barnes for speaking out against the sanctuary law, saying that it explains “why these sanctuary policies do not make sense when it comes to public safety.”
Illegal immigration has proven a major problem for Orange County in particular in multiple ways. The massive demographic shifts in the county due to immigration, both legal and illegal, are widely considered the major reason why the county – once considered one of the most conservative in the country and a bastion of the Republican Party – lost every single one of its Republican-held congressional seats in the 2018 midterm elections.
