Good Samaritans in Atlanta, Georgia, are going viral online after saving an imperiled motorist by smashing open his car windows with sledgehammers and strollers. A wild video of the rescue is breaking the internet.
“It brought joy to my heart to see people who did not even know each other to come together,” pastor Qua Tucker, who was involved in the team effort, told Inside Edition of the heroic deed.
Motorists were driving down a busy highway Sunday when they noticed a driver slumped over at the wheel of his slow-moving SUV.
“I looked over to the right and I saw an older guy driving his car,” Juordin Carter told ABC7. “But he was leaned over. He had passed out.”
Footage shows the Samaritans whaling on the side and rear windows with everything from sledgehammers to baby strollers, which initially led social media observers to believe it was a case of road rage gone awry.
“We took the jack and tried to bust out the front window, but I was out of luck,” recalled Tucker, who was on his way home from a Sunday service at the time.
Finally, a woman succeeded in busting open the rear window, whereupon Carter’s friend Jelani Campbell sprang to the rescue.
“I immediately got on the truck, started kicking the rest of the windshield down,” the courageous Campbell recounted. “That is when I slid in and unlocked the door.”
“I just stayed with him and made sure that he was OK and told him to keep his eyes open,” said Carter, who later phoned the motorist’s wife to let her know that he was receiving medical attention.
Paramedics have since confirmed that the man did experience a medical emergency, and is currently at the hospital, where he is reportedly recovering well.
“Felt good to see people, strangers rather regardless of race, sexuality, politics, political views or what, now come together to help someone else,” he said.
