Target lifts mask requirement for employees and shoppers

By Cassidy Morrison

Mega retailer Target announced Wednesday that it would rescind its mask mandate that applied to both employees and shoppers, joining a growing number of stores scaling back their masking rules.

Retailers such as Walmart and Amazon had already dropped their mask mandates for fully vaccinated employees. Target’s new policy applies to roughly 409,000 workers,

“As COVID-19 cases continue to decline across the country, Target will not require our U.S. team members or guests to wear masks, as local regulations allow,” Target said. “We’ll follow all state and local COVID-19 safety regulations and encourage our team members and guests to consult the latest public health guidance, get vaccinated and make decisions to keep themselves and their families safe.”

Target will still encourage shoppers and workers to socially distance as well as keep up heightened sanitation measures.
