In the wake of the Israel-Hamas war a number of senators in France have proposed a new law that would jail and heavily fine residents for speaking badly about Zionism and the nation of Israel.
Senator StĂ©phane Le Rudulier and 15 of his colleagues have proposed that those who deny the existence of the nation Israel could face up to a year in prison and a 45,000 euro fee. According to TVP World, residents who âinsultâ Israel would face up to two years behind bars and a 75,000 euro fine. Furthermore, those convicted of provoking hatred against Israel could face upwards of five years in jail and slapped with a 100,000 euro fine.
In a statement on X with an attached piece of the proposal, Le Rudulier stated:
With 16 senators we demand the criminalization of anti-Zionism. The explosion of anti-Semitism is fueled by hatred of Israel, the false nose of hatred of Jews Anti-Zionism could expose its perpetrators to up to 5 years in prison and a fine of 75,000 euros…
