Daunte Wright, the 20-year-old man whose death at the hands of police set off nationwide race riots over the weekend, had a warrant out for his arrest on attempted aggravated robbery charges, and reportedly repeatedly choked a woman at gunpoint in an effort to make her give him $820 in cash according to a report from the Daily Mail.
Wright died when a female police officer mistook her service pistol for a Taser and shot him as he was resisting arrest.
The Daily Mail reported Tuesday that Wright was detained due to expired license plates, not because of âair freshenerâ as his mother and BLM activists have claimed.
Furthermore, Wright had an active arrest warrant issued on his name for charges of attempted aggravated robbery, after allegedly demanding $820 in rent money from a woman at gunpoint.
According to the police report filed by Officer Shane Mikkelson, Wright was walking the female victim to the door when he âpulled a black handgun with silver trim out from either his right waistband or his right coat pocket and pointed it at victim and demanded the rent money.â
Wright can be seen displaying a black handgun with silver trim in an Instagram video taken shortly before his death.
According to the police report, Wright told the victim âGive me the f**king money, I know you have it,â and âIâm not playing around.â
âThe $820 cash was tucked in the victimâs bra and defendant Wright placed his hand around victimâs neck and choked her while trying to pull the cash from under her bra,â the report continues, noting that Wright then allegedly threatened to shoot the victim if she did not give him the money.
Ultimately, Wright and an accomplice were reportedly unable to obtain the money and fled in a white Cadillac.
