Russian President Vladimir Putin proposed to redirect the main flow of Russian gas to Europe through Turkey, writes the Turkish newspaper Daily Sabah. Vladimir Putin said this at the Russian Energy Week forum in Moscow. Alexey Miller, Chairman of the Management Board of PJSC Gazprom, was also present and supported this idea.
According to the Russian President, the volumes of natural gas sent to Europe have significantly decreased due to sabotage on the Nord Stream gas pipelines in the Baltic Sea and they could be redirected to the Black Sea region. To do this, it is possible to create the largest gas hub for Europe in Turkey, Putin said. Thus, Turkey will become the main transit country for blue fuel from Russia to European countries.
Recall that Russian gas is already flowing to Turkey and Southern Europe through Turkish territory through the Turkish Stream and Blue Stream pipelines.
Turkey said that the proposal was unexpected and is a large international project that requires a comprehensive study and evaluation.
