Kenosha police union drops ‘truth bomb’ about what really happened with Jacob Blake shooting (op-ed)

KENOSHA, WI– On August 28th, the Kenosha Professional Police Association (KPPA) released a press statement sharing vital, new information on the officer-involved shooting of Jacob Blake, 29.

Prior to this release, video footage taken from an alleged witness to the incident circulated social media causing many to violently protest, destroying businesses and other property in downtown and uptown Kenosha.

KPPA’s statement confirms that the media’s narrative of what transpired was a purely fictional depiction of the events.

According to the Daily Wire, the press release came from KPPA attorney Brendan Matthews and was based on information that has been gathered from the officers who were directly involved in the incident.

Senator Steve Nass (R-Whitewater) shared the news release because he believes that it is extremely important that the public have a more complete presentation of the facts relating to the incident. Below is the release of information from the KPPA and the officers involved in the incident:

“The recent officer-involved shooting in Kenosha has produced a variety of feelings and narratives, most of which are inaccurate.

The purely fictional depiction of events coming from those without direct knowledge of what actually occurred is incredibly harmful and provides no benefit to anyone whatsoever, other than to perpetuate a misleading narrative.”

The statement continued:

“Unfortunately, even the incident update from the Wisconsin Department of Justice, Division of Criminal Investigation (DCI), the agency charged with investigating the incident independently, is riddled with incomplete information and omits important details that would help to paint a more complete picture of the incident.”

KPPA then presented actual and undisputed facts from the officer-involved shooting incident. KPPA and the officers involved believe that the public deserves to know the truth. Below are the facts that were listed in the press release:

“The officers were dispatched to the location due to a complaint that Mr. Blake was attempting to steal the caller’s keys/vehicle.

“Officers were aware of Mr. Blake’s open warrant for felony assault (3rd degree) before they arrived on scene.

“Mr. Blake was not breaking up a fight between two females when officers arrived on scene.

“The silver SUV seen in the widely circulated video was not Mr. Blake’s vehicle.

“Mr. Blake was not unarmed. He was armed with a knife. The officers did not see the knife initially. The officers first saw him holding the knife while they were on the passenger side of the vehicle. The “main” video circulating on the internet shows Mr. Blake with the knife in his left hand when he rounds the front of the car. The officers issued repeated commands for Mr. Blake to drop the knife. He did not comply.

“The officers initially tried to speak with Mr. Blake, but he was uncooperative.

“The officer then began issuing verbal commands to Mr. Blake, but he was non-complaint.

“The officers next went “hands-on” with Mr. Blake, so as to gain compliance and control.

“Mr. Blake actively resisted the officers’ attempt to gain compliance.

“The officers then disengaged and drew their tasers, issuing commands to Mr. Blake that he would be tased if he did not comply.

“Based on his non-compliance, one officer tased Mr. Blake. The taser did not incapacitate Mr. Blake.

“The officers once more went “hands-on” with Mr. Blake; again, trying to gain control of the escalating situation.

“Mr. Blake forcefully fought with the officers, including putting one of the officers in a headlock.

“A second taser (from a different officer than had deployed the initial taser) was then deployed on Mr. Blake. It did not appear to have any impact on him.

“Based on the inability to gain compliance and control after using verbal, physical, and less-lethal means, the officers drew their firearms.

“Mr. Blake continued to ignore the officers’ commands, even with the threat of lethal force now present.”

According to a criminal complaint from back on May 3rd, 2020, Blake’s ex-girlfriend said that he entered her house uninvited early in the morning. She reported waking up to finding him in her room, standing over her. She detailed what happened next.

Blake claimed that he “wanted his sh*t” and as the defendant (the ex-girlfriend) laid on her back, Blake, suddenly and without warning, reached his hand between her legs, penetrated her vaginally with a finger, pulled it out and sniffed it and then said, “smells like you’ve been with another man.”

The complaint goes on to say that after committing this violent and degrading act, he immediately left the room, took her keys and debit card, and then drove away in her vehicle. The defendant said that he made two withdrawals with the stolen card.

In addition, the defendant also gave background information on her relationship with Blake. She stated that Blake is unemployed, has no car, and she had no idea where he currently lived.

They have three children together, but have never resided together in the eight years they have been together. The defendant also stated in the complaint that over those eight years, Blake physically assaulted her twice a year when he would drink heavily.

For that incident, Blake was charged with a felony 3rd degree sexual assault, criminal trespassing, and disorderly conduct. KPPA said that the responding officers to the recent incident on August 23rd, were aware of the warrant that was out for Blake’s arrest.

The press release from KPPA concluded by saying:

“The foregoing facts need to be added to the story to correct what is currently out there. As the uncontested facts above demonstrate, the officers involved gave Mr. Blake numerous opportunities to comply.

He chose not to. None of the officers involved wished for things to transpire the way it did. It is my hope that truth and transparency will help begin and aid in the healing process.”
