Alaska Airlines is facing heavy criticism after one a large panel on of their passenger jets came loose and was stripped from the plane mid-flight last week, which has now prompted an investigation into the incident.
The Boeing 737-9 MAX aircraft was only two-months old.
Secretary of Transportation Pete Buttigieg said in a statement on X:
Iâve been briefed on last nightâs incident and remain in close contact with FAA on the response. Grateful to the flight crew that kept passengers safe during this terrifying incident. FAA is supporting the NTSBâs [National Transportation Safety Board] investigation and will take all appropriate steps going forward.
Evan Smith, a passenger on the flight, told KOMO News, âYou heard a big loud bang to the left rear. A whooshing sound and all the oxygen masks deployed instantly, and everyone got those on.â
An Alaska Airlines flight was forced to make an emergency landing last night after a panel blew out shortly after takeoff. Thankfully, no serious injuries were reported.
