JUST IN: Trump’s Facebook and Instagram Accounts Have Been Reactivated

The Facebook and Instagram pages of former President Donald Trump have finally been reactivated by Meta, the parent company of both social media platforms. His accounts had been indefinitely suspended after the Jan. 6 Capitol protests.

Last month, Meta announced that Trump’s social media accounts would be reinstated since he is no longer considered a “serious risk to public safety.” However, Nick Clegg, the president of global affairs at Meta, said there would be “new guardrails” in place so they can maintain some control over Trump’s posts.

Elaborating on the “guardrails” that will be placed on Trump’s account, Clegg said, “Mr. Trump is subject to our Community Standards… he now also faces heightened penalties for repeat offenses – penalties which will apply to other public figures whose account are reinstated from suspensions related to civil unrest under our updated protocol.”
